Liberty Utilities recently partnered with the Truckee Tahoe Unified School District to assist the district in making smart energy moves at their school sites.
The existing lights in the Kings Beach and Tahoe Lake Elementary Schools were aging and beginning to fail, so TTUSD Program Manager Anna Klovstad worked with Liberty Utilities to take advantage of a supplier’s deeply discounted price on other high quality energy-saving replacement fluorescent lights.
The lighting upgrades resulted in a $3,405 rebate for TTUSD and a 20% cost savings every time their light switches are turned on!
After Liberty’s rebate, the district had almost no out-of-pocket costs (resulting in a simple payback of only a few short months) as well as ongoing energy cost savings. The school was even able to get the California Conservation Corps to install the new lights for free! TDUSD is using their partnership with Liberty as a model to do similar lighting retrofits with schools served by other utilities.
